![]() In Battlezone 64, the player determines the type of game they play. What's truly innovative are the many different ways to complete each mission. Paul: The missions are varied, from attacking along with friendly tanks deep into enemy territory, to escorting other units to safety. How do missions work? Can you give us some examples? Of course there are lots of surprises along the way. The player must go through following different missions of recovering alien artifacts and using the new technology. That's where the player begins, as a new recruit in a secret division of the American military known as the National Space Defense Force, or NSDF. ![]() Each side is convinced that the secrets behind the alien technology will give them the upper hand. Of course the Americans and Soviets use the technology to build weapons to fight each other and turn the tide of the Cold War. These alien remnants are made of "bio-metal", intelligent metal that can be harvested and transformed into just about anything. ![]() In reality, Americans have landed on the moon well before Armstrong and the Soviets are there, too. They cover up their secret activities of pursuing these remnants by convincing the public the Super Powers are really having a space race to the moon. Both the Americans and Soviets have found alien remnants on the moon. Because of the critical acclaim of the PC version, we're including as many of the same design elements as possible while adding many new features, balancing gameplay for the N64, and taking advantage of the N64 graphics engine. Essentially, the game is very similar to the PC version, which won several awards for its innovation and graphics. This game combines real time action and strategy, something unique to the Nintendo 64.
